EVENT: Samhain Reclaiming Spiral Dance Ritual

Friday November 2nd
5145 Boul. St. Laurent (north of Laurier)
6:30 pm altar set-up
7pm gathering
7:30 ritual starts
Suggested donation $2-$5
Please bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to share following the ritual.

This year’s Reclaiming Samhain ritual will take place at 7:30 pm on Friday November 2nd at 5145 Boul. St-Laurent, just north of Laurier (doors open at 7pm). This location is at street-level and is accessible for the mobility impaired.

The ritual will be modeled after last year’s ritual coordinated by Alex and friends, which used the framework of the popular San Francisco Reclaiming Community’s Spiral Dance Samhain ritual, now in its 28th year.

Two key parts of this ritual are the creation of community altars to honour the dead, and the naming of our deceased as well our newly-born in the past year.

If you’d like to create an altar at the ritual (for example to honour fallen soldiers, victims of AIDS, deceased pets, ancestors, etc), please email reclaiming@cosmic-muse.com before October 31st. Please arrive at 6:30 pm on November 2nd to set up your altar so that it is ready when participants start to gather at 7pm.

If you’d like the names of your deceased read out during the ritual, please email reclaiming@cosmic-muse.com before November 1st. There will also be an opportunity to add to the list just prior to the ritual itself. Please also write the name phonetically so we can make sure to that it is pronounced properly. You do not need to attend the ritual to add a name to the list of deceased that we will be honouring at the ritual.

Finally, please bring a thoughtful snack or beverage to share following the ritual, As well as your own plate and 'chalice' (cup). This is an alcohol-free event. If you have a few dollars to spare, there is a suggested donation of $2-$5 to help cover the cost of renting the location.

WORKSHOP: Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic Touch Workshop
Therapeutic Touch Workshop to be held on Sunday November 18th upstairs from Melange Magique, from 1-5 pm.

Therapeutic Touch is derived from the ancient practice of laying-on of hands. It is connected to the concept of universal life energy and field theory, which sees all energy as interconnected and in movement.

This four hour workshop will teach participants the basics of TT which they can begin using immediately to help others. Following a Wiccan framework we will then incorporate the Elements and God/Goddess energy in the work as well as exploring the ethics of TT in relation to the Rede and the Rule of Three. Self-TT and distance-TT will also be addressed.

No prior experience is necessary. An understanding of Wiccan principals would be helpful.

Cost: $40 ($35 for members).

Instructor: Meri Fowler

Montreal Pagan Community Conference 2007

Mark your calendars. The fourth Montreal Pagan Community Conference will be taking place on November 17th!

From Language to Liturgy
Crafting understanding in Montreal's diverse Pagan community.

Saturday November 17th, 2007
Scottish Centre in Verdun
All day, food provided

Montreal is a cauldron of diversity--religious, cultural and linguistic. Our local contemporary Pagan community is no different. We have a diversity of pagan traditions and paths practicing in different cultural contexts and languages.

This year, the aim of the conference is to celebrate this diversity and to facilitate communication between the many different facets of our local community. The event will include an inter-path panel with representatives talking about the roots and practices of their own traditions, as well as a roundtable discussion focussing on ways to reduce the linguistic divide between our francophone and anglophone pagan communities. There will also be an academic panel of local Pagan scholars.

As well as inviting you to attend the conference, we'd like to invite you to contribute to its vision. To this end, we're we welcoming proposals for workshops and facilitated discussions. If you have an idea about what you'd like to see at the conference, tell us about it. Proposals should fit within the conference theme, From Language to Liturgy, on some level, while addressing the issues of the local community, or be an opportunity for skill sharing and building within the local community. They should also be based on a 60-minute time slot.

Deadline for submitting proposals for workshops and facilitated discussions is October 18th.

Morning coffee , lunch, and afternoon snacks will be provided. A pub moot will follow the conference.

We look forward to reading your proposals and to seeing you at the conference!

Mabon Public Ritual 2007 on Saturday September 29th, 19h00

Mabon Public Ritual 2007
Saturday September 29th, 19h00
Angrignon Park
Meet at Angrignon Metro at 18h30-18h55

What to bring:
  • Warm clothing (we'll be outdoors)
  • Warm feast food/drink (it'll be cold!)
  • Drums, rattles, flutes (optional)
  • Ritual gear (robes, wands, no athames, etc. -- optional)
  • Guests (optional)
The summer is coming to an end, the year is coming to an end, and the new year is about to begin. As the land prepares for its long sleep, the trees are starting to shed their leaves, the days shorten, and the night stretches out before us. As the land around us transform, so do we change and transform ourselves. What are you ready to shed? What dead weight are you prepared to leave behind so that you can take on a new challenge?

The Green Man will be visiting with us in our sacred circle and has wisdom to share with you all. Come with us and bid him a fond farewell until his presence once again lengthens the days and the earth is reborn in the Spring.

We will be holding this public ritual in Angrignon park at sunset on Saturday September 29th, 2007 (19h00). Yes, this will be an outdoor public ritual (probably the last one of the season), so dress warmly!

The ritual will be held rain or moonshine; in the case of rain, we will try to tarp-out an area. However, in the case of an absolute downpour, we will have to cancel the event. Keep an eye on the MPRC website for any last minute changes (http://www.paganuniverse.com/mprc/).

If you have any questions, please contact Hobbes at jdhobbes [at] yahoo.ca.
