Unfortunately, there is no clear-cut, absolute definition of what a Pagan is exactly. But in the interests of clarity, we can refer to a simple definition of the word "Pagan" as a person who practices a religion that is not part of the monotheistic mainstream.
Pagan is an umbrella term that refers to many different belief systems that share a common thread. To draw a parallel with a mainstream belief system: Catholics, Anglicans, and Protestants are types of Christians. In that respect, Witches, Shamans, and Druids are types of Pagans.
Many Pagan religions are characterized by a connection and reverence for nature and are usually polytheistic (i.e. have many Gods and/or Goddesses).
Paganism is a religion of nature. Many Pagans live their lives attuned to the cycles of Nature, the seasons, life and death.
Paganism in the West takes a number of forms including Wicca, Druidism, and Shamanism (just to name a few).
